David Bowie Plymouth Concert Poster 1972

This is an ORIGINAL David Bowie gig poster (17 3/4"x 23") for his concert at the Plymouth Guildhall, 30th April 1972 (this being a Van Dike Club promotion). The poster presents an image of the very different pre-Ziggy incarnation of Bowie. Poster design by Van Dike "in-house" designer Jim Corridan.

This poster has been extensively reproduced over the past 20 years. However, the repros are distinct from the originals, a) generally having no patina of age b) being printed semi-gloss & c) being printed on a heavier stock paper. The original poster is printed on normal poster paper NOT thicker stock & has the same thickness/consistency of other Van Dike posters of this vintage.

So many repros are in the market (they frequently emerge in local auctions or on Ebay) that it was believed that the poster was a post-gig "confection". However, we can confirm that the gig did take place & that this specific poster was produced to promote it (if you look at the cover of the recent Jonathan Hill book about the Van Dike Club (1968-72), you can see the Bowie poster on the door & upper window!

We can guarantee that the poster we're offering here is 100% original & NOT one of the repros. It was acquired in a small collection of contemporary Van Dike posters/flyers (including The Incredible String Band 1970, Mott The Hoople 1971, Loudon Wainwright 1971 etc) & is printed on the correct stock of paper. MEM will provide an appropriate Letter of Provenance with this item. We also include below an image of the flyer for the same gig (this item already sold).

The poster is rolled with light creasing & with a piece missing from the bottom left corner. Irrespective, this is a rare early piece of original Bowie memorabilia.
