Elton John Pink Floyd Yorkshire Festival Poster

An original poster (17"x 23") for the infamous Yorkshire Folk, Blues & Jazz Festival, 14th-16th Aug 1970, at Krumlin (Nr. Halifax).

The Festival was infamous for the innocent incompetance of the organisation, unscrupulous forgers & hippy idealism undone by a ferocious summer storm up in the Pennines. The atrocious weather closed the Festival early & resulted in several hundred kids being treated for exposure. The organisers were bankrupted. An excellent (& often hilarious) book on the subject is entitled "Pink Floyd Are Fogbound In Paris: The Story Of The 1970 Krumlin Festival". It is likely that the young lady on the poster is the same one whose scantily clad appearance in the programme resulted in her mum threatening the organisers (who in turn exploited the marketing potential of the situation which meant the progs sold out quickly).

Various bands were advertised on the bill (whether or not they were actually contracted) The Who being one. Artists who did perform before the wind/rain closed the event were Fairport Convention & the young Elton John who put in a mighty performance in his first festival outing (immediately before he left to to the US to find instant fame!). Although Pink Floyd did not appear in the programme (The Who did) a contract for them to perform did exist as their name appeared in the banktruptcy hearings that followed.

Poster unfolded with minor pin-hole damage to corners, slight creasing/marks etc (& more blue than the image suggests). A rare piece of British Festival memorabilia.

NB. A supplementary P&P charge will be required for overseas buyers.
