101'Ers Strummer Watchfield Photos Flyer 1975

Following the violent clashes between festival-goers & the Police in Windsor Great Park at the 1974 Windsor Free Festival, attempts to hold a follow up in '75 were quashed though land was made available at the abandoned Watchfield airfield (nr. Swindon). The usual collection of counter-culture bands appeared (including Hawkwind) but perhaps of greatest interest, Joe Strummer's band, The 101'Ers, performed too. Interesting to note that The Clash's anti-establishment ethos had it's roots in the early 70's Underground scene. The Stranglers also appeared on the 24th.

Gathered here is a collection of original material relating to the festival, including 13 fascinating b/w photos (5"x 6 1/2"), these showing bands performing (not the 101'Ers), the control tower, tents & teepees, topless women, revellry & a "beware turd" sign, plus an original A4 flyer of the "Watchfield Freek Press" with lots of info/updates about the festival, issues, gossip etc. A great little collection.
