Early Elton John Marquee Flyer1970

Early Elton John concert memorabilia, an original Marquee Club double-sided flyer for June 1970.

Although Elton played the Marquee 16 times in the 1960's as part of Bluesology (& several other occasions backing visiting US artists), this 6th June gig was Elton's first at the Marquee as a solo artist but still before his real "breakthrough". Elton's 2nd LP "Elton John" peaked the month earlier in May '70 at #5 but it was not until later in the year & Elton's 6-day residency at the Troubador Club, West Hollywood, Aug-Sept '70 & the later success of "Your Song" (which went to #7 in the UK in Jan '71) that Elton John achieved real prominence. Nonetheless, Elton's first UK Tour Mar-June '70, of which this Marquee gig was a part, was definitely a pivotal moment in Elton's career.

Apart from Elton, included in the June Marquee line-up were Humble Pie, the Bay City Rollers (with a very early live gig), Slade (in their early "skinhead" incarnation), Caravan, Van Der Graaf Generator etc.
