Jailhouse Rock Quad Cinema Poster 1957

UK Quad linen-backed cinema poster (30"x 40") for the iconic Elvis Presley film "Jailhouse Rock" (1957).

Between 1956 to 1969 Elvis Presley starred in 31 films. "Jailhouse Rock" was not only one of the earliest (his third) but is generally regarded as being one of, if not THE, best! The "Jailhouse Rock" dance sequence is held by many to represent the very best of Elvis on the big screen & is depicted in the photographic shot in the top right. The dynamic artwork illustration of Elvis in the centre pictures him either throwing a punch (he plays an ex-convict in the film) or dancing (Elvis's dance moves were groundbreaking often horrifying the older generation). The Jerry Leiber-Mike Stoller title track gave Elvis his first #1 single in the UK charts, the film playing a seminal role in establishing Elvis as a true superstar in the international market. A rare piece of early Elvis memorabilia & a poster that is hardly ever on offer.

The UK Quad poster is far rarer than the corresponding US 1-Sheet poster. However, the last linen-backed US 1-Sheet to sell at auction in the US fetched a staggering $5,560 (April 2022).

Poster once folded but now conservation linen-backed (cleaned & de-acidified). Prior to backing the poster had creasing, minor paper loss to corners & light staining & has subsequently had restoration to corners & a few light touch-ins. The poster now displays to very good effect.
