Sparrow San Francisco Poster 1967

An original San Francisco Poster Company poster (14"x 20") for Sparrow, Wild Flower etc (a counter-culture event 10th April 1967 at the Regency Ballroom, Oakland). This poster was originally printed by Frank Westlake at Bindweed Press in San Francisco. The owner of Bindweed (Chet Helms) authorised re-prints of posters like this to be sold commercially post the actual gig & obtaining 1st prints as opposed to later prints is difficult. Westlake fell out with Helms & de-camped to London (taking many original printing plates) where he established the San Francisco Poster Company & this poster is one printed in London from the original plates c' late 1960's-early 70's. Numerous re-prints of these posters circulate in the States but as the "San Francisco Poster Company" posters used the original plates (legally owned by Westlake), these posters have now become collectable in their own right.The poster has extensive conservation repairs to the reverse & minor paper loss to corners etc (*).
