Beatles Ed Sullivan Show Photo 1964
Scarce Beatles "Ed Sullivan Show" (1964) b/w photo (8"x 10") taken on the occasion of The Beatles first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, 9th Feb 1964
The photo shows George, Ringo & John feigning horror while a fellow guest on the show pretends to cut Paul's hair, while a laughing Ed Sullivan looks on. On the occasion of The Beatles first visit to America they appeared three times on the Ed Sullivan Show in Feb '64, their debut appearance on the 9th being seen by a record 73 million viewers. It is generally held that this exposure was the catalyst for the mood of "Beatlemania" that swept the US & heralded in the "British Invasion" of other groups that followed. To the reverse of the photo is a "Goldmine" stamp (originally founded in 1974, "Goldmine" is the esteemed US magazine devoted to music collectables and music memorabilia).
