The Jam In The City LP Tour Poster 1977

Original Jam poster (19 1/2"x 28") advertising their debut LP "In The City" (May 1977) & associated UK Tour May-July '77.

This poster heralded the Jam's "breakthrough". Although the band were seriously gigging from 1976, it was not until they were signed by Polydor Records (Feb '77) & released their debut single "In The City" (Apr '76) that the band came to more general prominence, the single hitting #40 in the UK charts. The "In The City" LP, however, climbed to #20 in the album charts, bringing The Jam to nationwide attention. The gritty b/w design of the LP cover (replicated by the poster) reflected the high energy no-frills nature of the music on offer, the spray-painted band name generating a suitable rebellious urban vibe. The sharp suited Mod attire of the band, however, contrasted with the prevailing Punk ethos, marking out The Jam as something related but somewhow new & different.

The poster is unfolded & rolled with some widespread "foxing" (it's original!) but it still displays to excellent edgy effect & could be restored if so required. The blank space to the lower right designed for venue details to be added.
