Teardrop SLF Echo Friars 1982

Four notices handed out to attendees of Aylesbury Friars gigs, these being The Teardrop Explodes 25/1/82, SLF 30/1/82 & 5/11/82 & Echo & The Bunnymen 22/12/82. The notices all welcome the attendees but then carry warnings about violence at gigs. Friars had a reputation as a friendly gig venue but the promoters were constantly worried that isolated outbursts of violence could lead to the banning of punk/new wave gigs in the town. One notice warns against using fireworks at the venue whilst another asks that people refrain from bringing in water filled balloons. Two also ask attendees not to "gob/spit at the band" (contrary to popular myth, most punk bands did not like or encourage gobbing - according to an earlier Friars newsletter the only punk band that seemed indifferent to being gobbed on was The Damned!). An interesting collection that hints at the difficulty promoters had in hosting naturally exuberant punk gigs & keeping the local authorities onside.
