Callaghan Offer Political Poster 1978

Fascinating political poster (12"x 17") concerning Labour PM Jim Callaghan & entitled "The Offer" c' 1978.

Designed by CP Harper as a spoof of a cinema poster. "The Offer" refers to Callaghan's abortive effort to negotiate a "Social Contract" with the Trade Unions, a failed initiative that led to the infamous "Winter of Discontent" 1978-79. Some great topical references here to the "Green Goddesses" (army fire trucks that stood in while the fire service went on strike) & the "IMF" who bailed out the UK in Dec 1976 & then demanded massive spending cuts. An item that seems eerily relevant today!
