Friars Gillan Aylesbury Gig Poster 1980

Original Gillan silkscreen concert poster (20"x 30") for a gig at Friars, Aylesbury, 1st March 1980.

This was the first gig on Gillan's short 9-date "Mr Universe" UK Tour March 1980. Given Friars size & reputation for a friendly & knowledgeable audience, it was often used for "warm up" gigs like this. Gillan's band included drummer Mick Underwood who had previously been with Joe Meek's The Outlaws, The Herd, Episode Six & Quatermass. Support on the night was courtesy of The Broughtons.

For the uninitiated, Friars was a legendary music club in Aylesbury, active 1969-84. Posters/flyers from this venue have a common distinctive design & are very collectable (many more already listed on this website).
