Martin Sharp Legalise Cannabis Pysch Poster
A Martin Sharp "Putting Together Of The Heads - Legalise Cannabis" poster (20"x 30") c' 1967 & acquired from a Christie's auction, as part of Lot #223, 4th Sept 1997.Originally designed to advertise a rally to legalise cannabis at Hyde Park, 16th July 1967, this is an important poster in the canon of late 60's British psychedelic counter-culture posters. Apparently most of the flyposter advertising material for the Hyde Park event was stolen & subsequently sold to the public. Realising that they had inadvertently stumbled upon a commercial business, the distributors of "OZ" magazine then established "Big O Posters" to distribute further poster commissions, thus kick-starting the development of the psych poster scene in Britain.
This particular poster was the first released by Big O Posters. Australian artist Martin Sharp was closely associated with the notorious counter-culture "OZ" magazine & at the forefront of the psychedelic poster scene in late 60's Britain.
Poster printed on paper stock with a metallic gold print overlaid with red & black ink. Poster unfolded with various small edge nicks etc but overall
in very good condition. This particular poster lacks the "Big O" script to the bottom rim.
NB. A supplementary P&P charge will be required for overseas buyers.
