Lisztomania Daltrey Starr Poster Artwork

Original Vic Fair painted Quad cinema poster artwork (30"x 40") for the Ken Russell film about composter Franz Liszt "Lisztomania" (1975).

Most contemporary poster artists composed to smaller than Quad size (the artwork being photographed & increased to size prior to printing) so it is unusual to find a finished Quad artwork that is full poster sized. The combination of maverick Ken Russell & the irrevent artist Vic Fair was perfect, Fair unleashing a colourful tapestry of burlesque delights, celebrating the sex, glamour & "rock-star" adulation inherent in the film (it starred the likes of Roger Daltrey, Ringo Starr & Rick Wakeman - Vic Fair also illustrated the Quad poster for the Bowie film "The Man Who Fell To Earth").

The composition consists of a series of painted cut-outs pasted onto "Oram & Robinson" artboard, the entire piece being artwork not photo-based.

For an idea of relative value, please note that Sotheby's have recently sold Fair's original finished artwork for the 1978 re-release of "Performance" (1970) for £7,000 & a piece of concept artwork for "Labyrinth" (1986) for £5,250. In addition in 2024 Ewbanks sold Vic Fair concept artwork for "Frankenstein & The Monster From Hell" (1974) for £2,470.
