100 Club Georgie Fame Chris Barber 1964

An original 100 Club poster (20"x 30") for May 1964 advertising gigs by the likes of Geogie Fame & The Blue Flames, Ken Colyer, Chris Barber, George Melly etc.

Although the 100 Club location on Oxford Street had been a venue for live music since 1942, the 100 Club itself was started only in 1964. For many years the venue was a Jazz stronghold & in '64 the line-up was still very much Jazz orientated. However, the presence of Georgie Fame hints at the wider embrace which was later to enfranchise bands such as The Who & The Kinks & a decade later The Sex Pistols, Clash etc.

The poster has some corner damage a few edge tears (repaired to the reverse with conservation tape) but still presents well. This is an important poster heralding the earliest days of one of the most important London club venues in the 1960's-70's music scene.
